Birthday Skirts

Here is a picture of the girls in their birthday skirts. Ignore Kaylee's face. She didn't want her picture taken!

The skirts were fairly easy. I found a tutorial online that I followed.

Kaylee's skirt is a little short but she loved twirling around in it. I wanted to add an applique to the shirt but didn't know what the weather would be like and then I ran out of time.

The skirt is a circle skirt with a underskirt under it to make it fuller. The ruffle at the bottom took forever!

Simplicity 3512

Here is the pattern envelope. I left off the sash.

The dress turned out the perfect length and fit very well. John says this is the best dress I have made to date. I only had enough fabric to make one dress so I made it for Abby. I figure that the dress will get more wear if I make it for Abby because when she grows out of it, Kaylee will get to wear it.

Here is the top. It is hard to see the detail because the fabric is so busy but it is a criss-cross neckline with a ruffle. I don't know if you can see the print on the fabric but it is yellow with hot pink raspberries.

Here is the back of the dress. It has an invisible zipper. I love how it turned out.

Simplicity 1906

Here is the pattern envelope. I love the look of these pants.

Here are their pants. And you ask where will they wear these? To the circus of course!

Kaylee's pants were too long when I got finished so I had to cut off some of the pant and re-attach the ruffle. The proportions aren't right but they still work. I bought Kaylee a shirt that had bows around the neckline but the day of the circus when I put it on it was huge!

Here are Abby's pants. These fit much better than Kaylee's pants. I took a red shirt and added some ruffled ribbon around the neckline.
For the hair bows I took ribbon and ran a wide stitch in one side then ruffled it. Then I rolled it into a rose.
Here is a picture of us at the circus.

Simplicity 2193

Here is the pattern envelope. I didn't have enough fabric to make two dresses so I decided to shorten them and make them into matching shirts. I made the dress in the top right, the red one.
Here are the two girls together. The shirts actually ended up shorter than I thought they would.

Here is a close-up of the top. The sleeves are very full. Not sure if I like them. I have been doing more shirts lately and wanted to try these sleeves.

Here is Abby in her shirt. I do like the way this looks with a turtleneck under it.

Here is Kaylee in her shirt. I used a headband I had made to go with another dress. It matches almost perfectly.

Simplicity 2320

This is the pattern envelope I used for Abby's dress. I used the dress on the top right with the paisleys.

Of course Kaylee had to be in the picture. Her dress I already blogged about.

The dress had cap sleeves and a neckline with a slit. I only had enough material to make Abby a dress.

Here is a close-up of the neck. You can't see the detail because the fabric is so busy but it has a square in-lay and I top-stitched around that square. The top also has a slit cut into it.

Here is the back. I used an invisible zipper and I love how it turned out.

McCalls 5836

Here is the pattern envelope. I used the yellow top on the left. I loved the top so much I am thinking about making the dress.

Here is the front of the top. As you can see it is fitted but yet big enough to wear next year as well.

Here are the girls together. I love that the top can be worn with or without the shirt underneath.

Here is a side view of the top. You can see how full it actually is.

Here is a close up of the back. The fabric also has glitter on it as well but you can't see that in the photos.

Simplicity 4203

Here is the pattern envelope. I did the yellow dress on the top right.

Here is Kaylee in the dress.

Here are the bows I made to match. They are just fabric with ric rack around the edge and a button glued in the middle.

Here is a close up of the top part. I outlined the V-cut with ric-rack. That was the first time I did this type of top.

Here are both girls in their dresses. I love how well the dresses fit.

I don't know if you can see, but I sewed ric-rack on each seam and on the bottom of the dress.

Here is a picture of the back of the dresses. They have ties which help with the fit of the dress.
